Come join us in Arizona for 5 days of Adventure!

Rock Climbing

Our climbing program is led by an American Mountain Guide Association professional climbing instructor. No experience necessary. We meet participant skill level where they are at. All participants start with the basics of safety at the climbing wall and are outfitted with helmets, harnesses, belay devices, and climbing shoes.

This climbing adventure takes place in Arizona's beautiful Jacks Canyon off highway 87 in Coconino National Forest. Participants will be instructed in climbing safety, commands, terminology, belay techniques and knot tying. Then they will have the opportunity to put those skills in use on a variety of outdoor rock climbing routes.

Stand Up Paddle Boarding (SUP)

Stand Up Paddle Boarding or SUP is a water sport born from surfing with modern roots in Hawaii in which participants stand on the board and use a paddle to propel themselves through the water. It makes for an incredible way to enjoy  a hot day and has become a very popular recreational activity. Participants will be outfitted with lifejackets, paddles, and their very own board to spend a day at Clear Creek Reservoir.

Camping & Meals

On the Arizona Teen Adventure program participants will camp at a group campsite in Coconino National Forest off state highway 87. Life in camp will include sleeping in tents, cooking meals as a group, relaxing in hammocks, group discussions, games, and when possible nights around a campfire. During the day the group will venture out of camp for various activities in the surrounding areas including; rock climbing, hiking, stand-up paddle boarding, and swimming. Daily schedule and activities may adjust slightly dependent on weather.

Meals will be provided by the program. Breakfast and lunches are usually more basic quick meals such as fruit, oatmeal, granola, yogurt, bagels, meats, cheeses, crackers, sandwiches etc. Dinners are the hot meals of the day. The group cooks dinner together each night and are typically things like pastas, stir fry, burritos/quesadillas, salads, etc. Meals are adjusted based on the dietary needs of participants.

Diabetes Management

Blue Rise Adventure programs do not have an acting nurse or doctor on site for the program. Our diabetes management policies have been reviewed and approved by diabetes endocrinologists. All program staff live with type 1 diabetes and are trained in diabetes management.

Participants will meet with staff before meals, snack times, and before bed to discuss blood glucose levels, carbohydrate counts, insulin doses, and activity plans. Our staff also checks all participant's blood glucose level a minimum of once in the middle of the night. Blue Rise Adventures supplies an abundance of low blood glucose snacks such as fruit snacks and juice boxes. Participants are required to bring a 2 week supply of all their diabetes medical supplies including a glucagon. Please refer to our Packing List for more details.
